Since 2008, Linda Michael has been Deputy Director/Senior Curator at Heide Museum of Modern Art in Melbourne , Australia, where her exhibitions have included Louise Bourgeois and Australian Artists (2012), Callum Morton: In Memoriam (2011), and Freehand: Recent Australian Drawing (2010). As an independent curator prior to joining Heide, Linda curated We Are Family: Patricia Piccinini, as Australia’s representation at the Venice Biennale in 2003, and 21st Century Modern: The Adelaide Biennial of Contemporary Australian Art in 2006. She has also worked extensively as an editor for art museums and publishers including the Museum of Contemporary Art in Sydney, the Museum of Old and New Art (MONA) in Hobart, and Schwartz City, Melbourne. During her tenure at Monash University Museum of Art from 2001 to 2003 she curated Three Views of Emptiness: Buddhism and the art of Tim Johnson, Lindy Lee and Peter Tyndall (2002), among other exhibitions. Prior to that she lived in Sydney, where as senior curator at the Museum of Contemporary Art for eleven years from 1989 her shows included Mikala Dwyer (2000); Real Fictions: Four Canadian Artists (1996); Photography is Dead: Long Live Photography (1996) and, curated in collaboration with artist Peter Tyndall, word: artists explore the power of the single word (1999).
