Dr. Thomas Köhler finished his studies in art history, archaeology and romance languages at the Johann Wolfgang Goethe University Frankfurt in 1994. In 2003, he received his doctorate from the University of Darmstadt. He worked as assistant curator at the Museum of Modern Art in Frankfurt and was curator in residence at the Whitney Museum of American Art in New York. He was the head of collections at the Berlinische Galerie until 2010. In 2010, he was appointed director of the Berlinische Galerie.
