Artwork Description

JooYeon Judy Yang’s work originates from a practical, contemporary understanding of materials set against a romantic, intuitive interpretation of her world. Her works influenced from the harmonic symmetries in nature, the interior of the human body, and organic architecture as a means of depicting the abstract language in her artwork. The artwork itself reflects the life the artist has led as well as the maturation and development she being gone through as a person and artist. The complex, curved lines and forms that populate her work suggest a variety of motions stemming from beauty and joy, from ugliness and pain, from death and the grotesque. Her deft yet playful works hint at a relationship between the visual traditions of the East and West. They attempt to reconcile elements of her own visual lineage, is the conflict that she experience between my eastern and western cultural backgrounds. Her perspective manifests itself in an art that displays an ever-present internal conflict. Simple shapes turning complex, chaotic forms clinging to order. www.cocojudy.com
