Michelle Kaufman

Bio: I succeeded at business during the twenty years I worked at it. but 9/11 was a standout day for me; I was on the plane one hour before the one that went down in Pittsburgh. five years later I decided it was now or never why wait be the artist I am because I had something I needed to say. trying to use my tools: intuition a curiosity to analyze disparate sources of information to give something new to look at or to think about. not holding myself back I use words paint video fire quick and dirty or slow. Artist Statement: I read omnivorously, the world history of: trade empire growth debt war slavery revolution disease prehistoric man scientific books on the genesis of life the mechanisms of complexity I meditate on the books a haiku emerges a video a painting words world system analysis speaks to me the world functions as one organism sovereignties are not really sovereign: they are like the body of one person - moving as a unit for a nation to revolt, all parts of it must be eroding simultaneously like a body being able to conquer a small infection, but not a proliferating cancer for a region to collapse completely there must be no nation remaining outside it to fill the power vacuum the world is one big nonlinear autocatalytic reaction we are all the product and the reactant
