Artwork Description

“I will tell you the one thing I really believe out of all the things there are to believe… All people are insane… They will do anything at any time, and God help anybody who looks for reasons.” - Kurt Vonnegut No matter how frustrating it can be, we all look for reasons. Using photography and found imagery, my work explores different aspects of global intellectual and emotional knowledge, and attempts to make them accessible in new ways. My series called "Patterns of Science" is named after a program created by the United Nations shortly after World War II. The program's purpose was to prevent an apocalyptic third world war by promoting intercultural understanding. Using vintage catalog imagery, each piece explores the relationship between patterns that exist in fashion and patterns that are found in human genetics. While clothing patterns are designed to make the wearer look and feel different, when expanded over a model's exposed skin it represents the biological and emotional framework that we all share.
