I am curious about the perception of naked bodies-‐ especially the revered and reviled female body. Nicknamed “my Donald Judd underwear”, I made this outfit for myself from spandex fabric labeled “nude” in order to create an absurdly modified figure. For women, most of our feelings about the body come from media, advertisements, and tabloids that create a duality between disgust with our bodies and a desire to be unobtainably perfect. We hope to appear “naturally beautiful”, yet our guidelines for beauty are often unnatural modifications. While I often use symbols and metaphors for futility and oppression-‐ where we act as cogs in a system that cares nothing for our complex ideas and emotions-‐ it is by exaggerating the abject and pathos that I find humor in the absurdities of existence, and therefore come to accept them. Humor, for me, is one the most important tools of survival. CV: MFA- SUNY Purchase; BA- Sarah Lawrence College. Selected Exhibitions: White Box, The Richard and Dolly Maass Gallery, A.I.R.
