Artwork Description
Beverly Richards
I was born and raised in Brooklyn, NY and attended Erasmus High School. I am currently employed as a secretary with New York State. Early in the 1980’s I moved to Chicago where I was introduced to the art of Macrame by two wonderful teachers John Pratt and Charles Mitchell. John taught me the skills needed to create intricate knots and weave a variety of textiles to create plant holders and wall hangings. Charles tapped into my creative side and helped me develop my style and creativity. As my confidence grew so did my abilities to create intricate knots with a variety of textiles. The pieces that I create are meant to touch each individual differently and allow the viewer to discover what the piece means to him or her. Over the years my pieces have grown both more complex and larger, however, they still hold their own stories. During the early 90’s I was fortunate to show my work at an exhibit held at the former Muse Museum in Brooklyn, along with several other local artists.
