Rachel Kohn

My paintings visually transform cycles of growth and decay into a landscape. My work reflects on a continued exploration of the cycles of the earth and the energy involved in this dynamic system. Things fall apart, the fact that those I love are destined to fall apart is at the heart of my work. Cycles of life and death, growth and decay, are all inevitable. We have no choice but to find harmony in these cycles. My work attempts to find beauty within these harrowing experiences. I was born in Brooklyn, NY in 1981, received my B.A. in Art and Mathematics from Skidmore College in 2003. Then I received my M.F.A. from Hunter College in 2009. Currently I live and work in New York, and have a studio in LIC, Queens.
