Rachel Ostrow

Rachel Ostrow

Rachel Ostrow is a painter and printmaker raised in Buffalo, New York. She earned her B.A. in Fine Arts with a concentration in Printmaking from Wesleyan University in 1999. She received a Post-Baccalaureate Degree from the Maryland Institute College of Art in 2002. In Spring, 2008, she earned her MFA in painting from Hunter College. She lives and works in Brooklyn. Ostrow's recent paintings exist in a fantastic realm. Each is a small world, dense with the activity of painting. Distorted spaces and warped forms merge into one another questioning the boundaries between inside and outside; body and environment. These paintings do not follow the rules of the natural visual world, yet they are far from pure abstraction. They use abstraction to be suggestive; to provoke thought and to engage the viewer's imagination.
