Paintings in the I Look for Light series consists of applying one layer per day for a period of time [as revealed in the title]. Each layer contains translucent urethane and pigment of varying colors and values. The final piece, rooted in principles of color theory and interaction, presents one surface as the results of all combining layers. Reflective layers and powdered metals are employed to create reflection and luminosity that shift with the viewer.

Artwork Description
Keira Kotler
Keira's work explores visual and sensory perception and the possibilities that occur when one attends to the present moment. Using luminosity and the resonance of color, she creates reductive objects and wall-based installations that engage the viewer through subtle value shifts, chromatic complexity, and compositional movement. Combining translucent materials, layering techniques, and color science, Keira creates reductive fields that amplify form, light, and geometry; spaces in which it is possible to penetrate. The results are experiential surfaces that shift with changing perspectives, lighting conditions, and architectural elements. Keira’s work has been shown at BRAC, San Francisco MOMA, the Palm Desert Museum, and the di Rosa Preserve. Her work is represented by galleries across the US and collected internationally. She received a BA from Columbia University and a MFA in Painting from the San Francisco Art Institute. She maintains studios in both New York and San Francisco.
