Artwork Description
Jeremiah David Hair
My hope is to be simple and direct in my work. I believe in communicating with the viewer through the intrinsic quality of paint in a way that invites them in to an emotion and an experience translated from my own. This requires that I am highly personal in my work, depicting people, spaces, and moments from my present and my past. My focus tends to lie in the complexities of the interpersonal, both in our direct experiences with one another, as well as our interactions with the urban infrastructure. In my recent work, I have left some of the direct-observational techniques I have held tight to for years (as depicted in my submission) to work exclusively from memory. This - essentially depicting a memory, rather than a scene - has been an enormous change for me, to a deliberate, slow and delicate pace, inviting the viewer not to see what I see, but to remember what I remember.
