Mitchell Marco - Embrace
Artwork Description
Mitchell Marco
Painting is an attempt to make images which respond to the complexity of the contemporary world and people’s place within it. The selection of subjects suggests a range of human experience. From the macro (a deflated globe) to the micro (a facial expression) the mystery and humor of life is evoked. Literary characters and authority figures make appearances. Novelty items and nature scenes vie for our attention. The overall approach is whimsical, but with a strange, psychological undercurrent. Mitchell Marco was born in Atlantic City. He studied at the School of Visual Arts and the Art Students League of New York. A winner of the 2003 Alexander Rutsch Award for works on paper, Marco had an exhibition of drawings at the Pelham Art Center. In 2008, his solo exhibition “An Ordinary Childhood” was held at Christopher Henry Gallery. Marco has shown his work in group exhibitions at Exit Art, George Adams Gallery, Grady Alexis Gallery, Jonathan Shorr Gallery, NURTUREart, and the Parrish Art Museum. His work has been published in Classical Life Drawing Studio and New American Paintings.
