Nicholas J Naber

Nick Naber is a young artist working in drawing and painting. He received his BFA from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee in 2009, with minors in art history as well as architectural studies. Nick has had two solo exhibitions stemming from his undergraduate work. Nick is attending Pratt Institute for his Masters of Fine art Degree in painting and drawing. He is an active member of the Pratt Artists League helping to further the work of emerging artists in Pratt’s graduate program. Darkness overtakes the canvas. The forms stretch, expand, and integrate creating subtle layers. These layers use facades, which are explored from experiences of the world around me. The physical and the metaphysical sphere come together to explain my understanding of my psychology and the external. The facade is a mask, it is one that is worn in my daily exchanges creating a barrier between myself and the world. This is manifested in the work through the murkiness of the mysterious architectural forms. The paintings give room for the viewer to enter, however, are not inviting they are constanly on gaurd. The surface looks flat and pristine, but my hand is evidenced through the buildup of paint where the structures coalesce. The physicality is important, it shows my futile attempts at perfection and gives a tactility to the work that has a direct relation to the forms I conceive.
