An imaginary self-portrait. My various techniques are ways of isolating and concentrating the experience of seeing. A different kind of focus, one that lets the mind wander inward a little bit. But remember, pictures are more like words...they're not holy relics.
Jeremy Freedman - The Refusal Of Love
Artwork Description
Jeremy Freedman
I am interested in making photographs that don't look like photographs. My various techniques are ways of isolating and concentrating the experience of seeing. There are, of course, great photos that are in focus, but sometimes photos have too much "reality" for my taste. And of course it's not really reality, it's a photographic reality, which replaces thought and seeing and may not open the mind or the eye. I'm interested in a different kind of focus, one that lets the mind wander inward a little bit. But for me, pictures are abstract, like words, rather than holy relics.
