I love environmental portraiture. This portrait was taken in the highlands of Guatemala. I was amazed at how relaxed and welcoming this gentleman was towards me. His beautiful hands and face convey his sprit which has not been destroyed by the hardships he has experienced living in an area which was so terribly effected by the long and difficult war there.

STATEMENT: "The aim of portraiture is essentially to do away with all the cultural trappings that divide us, so as to bring across the human elements that are common to us all. An effective photograph captures a fleeting moment in which the essential spirit of the subject leaps through the camera, overcoming all boundaries, and conveys its own personal meaning."
