Bio: Robert Herman was born in Brooklyn, New York. His photographs have been exhibited throughout the United States including the Museum of Modern Art, the Savannah College of Art & Design, the Henry Gregg Gallery and the Howard Yerzersky Gallery. Winner of a PX3 Prix de la Photographie People's Choice Award for his fine art book project and the Alitalia per L'Arte, Rome, Herman is represented by Glasshouse Images and Win-Initiative in New York City. He has a BFA from NYU's Tisch School of the Arts and a Masters of Professional Studies in Digital Photography from the School of Visual Arts in NYC. Artist's statement: I have recently been making a series of photos using the Hipstamatic App on an iphone. This allows me to remain almost unnoticed while doing street photography. In some ways, I am referring back to Walker Evens and Helen Levitt's use of a camera that appeared to be pointing in one direction, which in reality was exposing the film in another. This allows for greater authenticity in the photo, and less self-conscious awareness by the subject(s). By selecting this camera/film combination, it enables me to echo my previous street work on Kodachrome.
