I am a New York photographer who creates images of rural and urban landscapes that suggest a sense of place and time. My goal is to express the delicate balance between nature and culture in the environment and our spiritual attachment to the land. For the past ten years, I have been documenting rural and natural landscapes along Long Island’s East End, which has evolved into two photographic series – “Vanishing Landscapes” and “A Sense of Place.” In each series, I use infrared film to create images with luminous light and a sense of timelessness. I then apply oils and pencils to add lush color that heightens the photograph’s visual intensity, texture and depth. With this technique, I can reinterpret the image while retaining a realistic quality.
