Gisella Sorrentino

Gisella Sorrentino (b. Genoa, 1978) is one of the photographer represented by Gaze Photography LLC based in NY. Gaze Photography is a photo studio which explores different aspect of photography through the eyes of women photographers. In my work I use photography to explore the relationship between the self and the outside space. I’m interested in envisioning where the inner space (emotional, ideal, personal) overlaps outside space (social, natural, spiritual) as well as how they interact. In order to experience that, I place my body in different environments - cityscape's, landscapes- and I allow my self to perform in and around them. Having a background as a dancer I use certain locations as a choreographic objects and I dance within and around them. Each image evokes a different sentiment of opposites to me, such as: the search of unity in comparison with separateness, the joy and the fear, the sense of wait and release. The photos attempt to show the temporariness and the repetitiveness of these feelings in the life cycle.
