At first glance this shot could be mistaken for a third world country, perhaps of a city in India or Latin America. However, with a closer look the buildings in the background become recognizable to a New Yorker as being somewhere in the Financial District. Yet the viewer still remains curious as to where exactly this is in our beloved city. I took this shot from the southwest end of the Manhattan Bridge looking down into Chinatown as I was transfixed by the graffiti and wondered what was happening inside each window of the main apartment building.
