The photographs in this series present my encounter with overlooked areas found in the mundane operations of a small business. Generic artifices are presented in a well-ordered, yet unsettling manner. Personalities surface out of inanimate objects. Relics stand after years of business, with uncertain survival.

Michelle Cheikin
Michelle Cheikin is a photographer that was born in Virginia Beach, 1970. She holds a BA in Sociology from Clark University and an MFA in Photography and Related Media from the School of Visual Arts. She has taught photography at Harlem School of the Arts and currently teaches at Hostos Community College. Her photography has been exhibited in San Francisco, New York City, and Vermont galleries as well as the Queens Museum of Art and The Bronx Museum of the Arts. She currently resides in Queens, NY.
