Born in South Korea, I moved to America in my late teen years and lived in many different cities in the east coast and the south. My work is inspired by the adaptation to new social and physical environments across national and international borders. I relocated many times for schools, jobs and even a marriage, and I often wondered how my life would have turned out differently had I made different choices. “Desert Series” is one of four parts of “Tunnel” photo and video project. Each tunnel represents a choice that we make in our lives. In the project, as a traveler, I walk through each tunnel, the portal to different geological locations – Desert, Ocean, Mountain and Urban scenes. While examining different time and space that results in separations and differences in our cultural, physical and social settings, I searched for what connects us together beyond our differences. Desert Series explore the co-existence and cycle of life that touch us all. The photograph, “In the Beginning” from Desert Series explores the celebration of all life.
