Ramona Candy

Born in Brooklyn NY, I began creating as a child. My mother was a dressmaker and our family’s tiny apartment was always filled with fabrics, colors, threads and patterns. That must have had a great influence on my life in - and love for - the arts. While pursuing an art degree, I danced in studios throughout NYC and my passion for dance became a performing career spanning 25 years. In dance, I connected with culture and personal heritage. My goal is to continue exploring cultural completion in my visual art works. Rhythms emerge, colors vibrate, boundaries are shattered -- and movement is constant. Dance, a rich Caribbean heritage and a happy Brooklyn childhood inspire my work. As a performing and visual artist, I continue to be involved in my community. I was the featured artist for Brooklyn Academy of Music’s DanceAfrica 2010 and my work is in several public collections, including the NYC Health and Hospitals Corporation, Museu Brasileiro da Escultura - MuBE Sao Paolo, Brasil, Pinacoteca de Sao Paulo, Brasil and Hotel 718 in Brooklyn. Exhibitions include Tabla Rasa and Corridor Galleries, Kenkeleba House, Hudson Guild, Visual Arts Center of NJ, Graphias Casa da Gravura, Sao Paolo, Brazil. I live and work in Clinton Hill, Brooklyn.
