J.L. Abraham

My art is about the city and the spaces between figuration and abstraction that varying and multiplying images in printmaking allow me to explore. Architectural forms are compelling to me, as are specific New York spaces. But the lure of the city lies both in the constantly shifting patterns it proffers, and the settings in which people live. At the same time, my subjects are continually evolving. My bottom line is Gertrude Stein’s: “how much vitality has it and do you happen to like to look at it and does it hold your attention.”
