Artwork Description

A tableau of blue glazed polymer clay objects that create a psychological narrative through association. There is a benevolent dog comforting a contorted female nude, repetition of roses, a phallic totem and an expressionistic blue line. This work is part of a series titled "Where the Grapes of Wrath are Stored", a line from the Battle Hymn of the Republic that attempts to capture in objects dissociated sadism and cruelty beneath the surface of Americana.

I studied conceptual art at Hartford Art School in the 80's. Since then I have worked in various media, currently focusing on photography and ceramic sculpture. My work is currently exhibited around the country in juried exhibitions including the prestigious Tokyo- NY ceramic friendship competition. I have two simultaneous shows this December in Lower East Side galleries, one titled "Sexting: An Art Form- wish u were here', which is a collection of 100 small low tech photos from iphone cameras, text messages and computer cameras which combines populist technology with feminist eroticism, porn and art history. The photos reference artists from Rothko to Warhol to low budget porn. The other show is titled "Where the Grapes of Wrath are Stored" which is a collection of small polymer clay objects which attempt to capture the cruelty and sadism just below the surface of Americana. My work is influenced by my private practice as a psychoanalytic psychotherapist specializing in working with artists and writers in Manhattan.
