Artwork Description

This piece is talking about the animal inside us that sometimes feels trapped. The fur inside the house is dog fur, which I've been collecting.

June Kim

Born in Montclair, New Jersey and raised in New York, June Kim graduated from New York University, where she majored in Photography and Creative Writing. She spent fifteen years in the photo industry as a producer and agent when she got her first show in New York City. Her work has since been part of several group exhibits such as the Seoul Art Fair as well as the 2009 National Photo Exhibition at Soho Photo Gallery curated by Susan Kismaric, Director of Photography at MOMA. Her work examines the human as animal and vice versa. It also reflects on the mythology that surrounds wolves - wildness, freedom, spirituality and loyalty. Using her dogs, who strongly resemble wolves, she began by photographing them, then expanding her repertoire with sculptural pieces using their fur, as well as videos. She is currently receiving her MFA in Photo at Pratt Institute. More of her work can be viewed on her website: www.june-kim.com
