Jeanne Tremel

Jeanne Tremel

This piece is from a series of crocheted wall pieces, done by a spontaneous process of hooking chain stitches of varied color and weight threads, yarns and monofiliment. Metaphorically, I attempt to link and contain ambivalent and contradictory psychic energies into tangible compromises. These small-scale, intimate pieces grow and evolve organically, the process similar to growth and change in nature, in plant-life, sea-life, within the human body and psyche. The works reference the heart, veins, tubes, pipes, orifices, roads, tree roots & branches, and buds. I consider notions of 'surprise' and 'choice' and then adapt the effects to co-exist in weird peaceful co-existence. Jeanne Tremel is an artist who has shown her paintings and sculpture in numerous exhibitions and galleries in Minneapolis, Chicago, Los Angeles and New York. She has a BFA from St. Cloud State University, St. Cloud, Minnesota and an MFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago (SAIC), as well as a Certificate in Art Therapy from the School of Visual Arts (SVA) in New York City. Her work has been reviewed in The New York Times, and Time Out New York.
