Artwork Description

This sculpture is part of a body of work called 'Containers for Landscape.' The sculptures are isolated bodies that reference natural and industrial forms and create a dialog around landscape, decay and transformation.

MaryKate Maher

I find interest in the discarded, the broken and misshapen elements of industry and their parallel elements found in nature. Working from a personal lexicon of imagery, I construct and deconstruct forms until they are neither physical nor psychological but exist in the spaces between. Maher received her MFA from Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts (2004). She has also studied at the Glasgow School of Art (1999) and attended the Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture (2008). Maher is a 2011 NYFA sculpture fellow. She has been a resident of the MacDowell Colony, Vermont Studio Center and upcoming resident at Yaddo. Maher’s work has been exhibited at the Socrates Sculpture Park, NY; NurtureArt, NY and Kunstwerk Carlshutte, Germany. www.marykatemaher.com
